Yorkshire Pudding

在英國讀寄宿學校時,平日飯堂食物非常乏味,但是每逢週日便可以享受令人引頸以待的週日烤肉(Sunday roast)。週日烤肉是當地傳統菜色,烤牛肉伴以約克郡布甸(Yorkshire pudding)、薯仔及其他蔬菜,讓英國人品嚐家的溫暖味道。本人對約克郡布甸情有獨鍾,經常會添食,彷彿它才是這道菜的主角,但是自2002年「學成歸來」便無緣與它再遇上。 最近心血來潮到OpenRice搜尋Yorkshire pudding,竟然發現一間位於蘇豪、名叫Yorkshire Pudding的餐廳! 於是便和同是在英國生活過數年的好友S到餐廳品嚐它的約克郡布甸! 我們並沒有失望而回,吸收了肉汁、外脆內軟的約克郡布甸真的令人欲罷不能。享受久違了的約克郡布甸時,我們談到各自的英倫回憶片段,真的很懷念那些無憂無慮的日子。 When I was a boarder in the UK, canteen food on weekdays was very boring, to put it mildly. But I had Sundays to look forward to – when we were served the delightful Sunday roast, a traditional British dish starring the roast beef, coupled with potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and other vegetables. It is a hearty dish that makes the Brits feel at home. To me, the Yorkshire pudding is the star of the Sunday roast – I was obsessed with it and often requested seconds. The Yorkshire pudding and I parted ways when I came back to Hong Kong in 2002. But curiosity (and luck) struck – I looked up Yorkshire pudding on OpenRice recently and found a restaurant in Soho named Yorkshire Pudding! So I went to the restaurant with my good friend S, who also lived in the UK for several years, in the hope that we would taste some authentic Yorkshire puddings. We weren’t disappointed – far from it, we couldn’t get enough of their signature dish. Marinated in gravy, it captures our imagination with a crispy crust and a soft centre. As we indulged in the Yorkshire pudding, we reminisced about our UK years – those carefree days rushing back to us.
